It's about 1.9 miles from Lakeland and 4.4 miles from the Village of Pinckney in a straight line (USGS GNIS place data), and about 26.4 miles from downtown Fenton. In November 2026, my site had 3483 Windwheel Point Drive and 3332 Shawnee Trail for sale.

Lake Overview

• Location: Hamburg Township, Livingston County, right next to Gallagher Lake (MichiganLakes.com).
• Size: sources differ a little. DNR data (DNR lake list via MLSA) and EGLE mapping show about 67 acres, HRCOLA lake data lists 65, and Washtenaw County 2024 lake report lists 75.
• Depth: HRCOLA lists a 50-foot maximum; the county's 2024 report lists 48 feet.
• Boating: I didn't find a DNR local watercraft rule naming Whitewood (DNR Livingston County rules). Listings call it all-sports, but HRCOLA says it can't handle wake boats in wake mode (HRCOLA boating page).
• Public access: there's no public launch on Whitewood; the only public launch on the chain is the Michigan DNR site on Portage Lake off MacGregor Road (HRCOLA).
• Shoreline: Microsoft building map data shows about 63 buildings near the shore.

Living on Whitewood Lakes

Whitewood is a small lake with big-lake reach. Channels tie it to the rest of the chain, from Portage up to Strawberry and Zukey (Wikipedia). The county's 2024 report notes Whitewood takes water straight from the Huron River, so its water turns over in just a few days.

Hamburg Township & Schools

Whitewood homes are in Hamburg Township with Pinckney addresses. Both current listings show Pinckney Community Schools, but I confirm the district for every address.

Tips for Buyers

• Understand riparian rights. Michigan waterfront ("riparian") owners generally have rights to dock and reach the water (EGLE inland lakes guide). "Lake privileges" or a shared lot is different, so read the deed and any easement.
• Know the local rules. I'll check Hamburg Township zoning, association rules, and any dock or shoreline rules for the specific parcel.
• Seawalls and permanent docks generally need an EGLE permit, while seasonal docks usually don't (EGLE dock handout). Ask for permit records.
• Confirm sewer or septic and well, and schedule inspections for any private system.
• Check the address on FEMA's Flood Map Service Center and get a flood insurance quote early.
