Welcome to Zukey Lake

Zukey Lake is in Hamburg Township, Livingston County, just north of Strawberry Lake (MichiganLakes.com) and about 24.3 miles from downtown Fenton. It's part of the Huron River Chain of Lakes (HRCOLA lake data). In November 2026, my site had two Zukey Lake homes for sale, 5267 Redding Drive and 9749 Beverly Drive.

Lake Overview

• Location: Hamburg Township, Livingston County, with Pinckney addresses (MichiganLakes.com).
• Size: about 149 acres in DNR data (Michigan's Named Inland Lakes, DNR data via MLSA); EGLE MiEnviro inland lakes mapping shows about 148, while HRCOLA lake data and MichiganLakes.com list 155.
• Depth: about 35 feet at its deepest (HRCOLA and MichiganLakes.com agree).
• Boating: I didn't find a Michigan DNR local watercraft control naming Zukey Lake (Michigan DNR Livingston County watercraft controls). Wake boats can run in wake mode only in a small area of Zukey (HRCOLA).
• Public access: there's no public launch on Zukey; the only public launch on the chain is the Michigan DNR site on Portage Lake off MacGregor Road (HRCOLA).
• Shoreline: Microsoft building-footprint map data shows about 216 buildings near the shore.

Living on Zukey Lake

The big draw is the chain. No-wake channels link Zukey to Strawberry and the lakes downstream (Wikipedia; sources count eight or nine lakes on the chain). The Redding Drive listing mentions the Zukey Lake Tavern, a marina and the Lakelands Trail (listing). Oneida Lake is right next door.

Hamburg Township & Schools

Zukey Lake homes have Pinckney addresses, and both current listings are in Pinckney Community Schools. Hamburg Township waterfront homes on my site today are in Pinckney Community Schools or Brighton Area Schools, so I confirm the district for every address.

Tips for Buyers

• Understand riparian rights. Michigan waterfront ("riparian") owners generally have rights to dock and reach the water (EGLE inland lakes guide). "Lake privileges" or a shared lot is different, so read the deed and any easement.
• Know the local rules. I'll check Hamburg Township zoning, association rules, and any dock or shoreline rules for the specific parcel.
• Seawalls and permanent docks generally need an EGLE permit, while seasonal docks usually don't (EGLE dock handout). Ask for permit records.
• Confirm sewer or septic and well, and schedule inspections for any private system.
• Check the address on FEMA's Flood Map Service Center and get a flood insurance quote early.
• Zukey Lake is one of the lakes in Hamburg Township's Aquatic Weed Control special assessment district (Hamburg Township Aquatic Weed Control S.A.D.), so many shoreline parcels carry a weed control assessment. I'll check whether the parcel is in the district and get the current amount in writing, along with any subdivision or association dues.
• Taxable value generally "uncaps" after a sale (MCL 211.27a), so don't budget off the seller's tax bill.
• Both current listings show public sewer and a private well.

Tips for Sellers

• Lead with chain-of-lakes boating and the walk to the tavern and trail.
• Say "Zukey Lake" and "Huron River Chain of Lakes" in your listing.
• Have frontage, dock, sewer and well details ready.
