Welcome to Oneida Lake
Oneida Lake is in Hamburg Township, Livingston County, about 23.8 miles from downtown Fenton. It sits right by the Lakeland community (USGS place data via TopoQuest), just north of Zukey, Strawberry and Bass lakes, with homes along Island Shore Drive and Pinckney mailing addresses (MichiganLakes.com). When I checked in October 2026, my site had one Oneida home for sale, 5208 Schlenker Street.
Lake Overview
Living on Oneida Lake
Oneida Lake is a smaller lake in the heart of Hamburg Township's lake country. The current listing talks about boating, fishing and swimming right from the yard, and says the home is a short walk to Zukey Lake Tavern and the Lakeland Trail. That mix of a quieter lake and an easy walk to the trail is a big part of the appeal.
Hamburg Township & Schools
Oneida Lake homes are in Hamburg Township with Pinckney addresses, and the current listing is in Pinckney Community Schools. Hamburg Township waterfront homes on my site today are in Pinckney Community Schools or Brighton Area Schools, so I confirm the district for every address.
Tips for Buyers
- Understand riparian rights. Michigan waterfront ("riparian") owners generally have rights to dock and reach the water (EGLE inland lakes guide). "Lake privileges" or a shared lot is different, so read the deed and any easement.
- Know the local rules. I'll check Hamburg Township zoning, association rules, and any dock or shoreline rules for the specific parcel.
- Seawalls and permanent docks generally need an EGLE permit, while seasonal docks usually don't (EGLE dock handout). Ask for permit records.
- Confirm sewer or septic and well, and schedule inspections for any private system.
- Check the address on FEMA's Flood Map Service Center and get a flood insurance quote early.
- I didn't find a published lake association or lake special assessment for Oneida Lake. Hamburg Township's weed control district (Hamburg Township Aquatic Weed Control S.A.D.) lists Gallagher, Long, Strawberry and Zukey lakes and the Huron River, not Oneida Lake. I'll confirm any dues or assessments on the parcel in writing.
- Taxable value generally "uncaps" after a sale (MCL 211.27a), so don't budget off the seller's tax bill.
- The current listing shows a septic system and a private well, so plan on both inspections.
Tips for Sellers
- Lead with the lake lifestyle and the walk to the Lakeland Trail.
- Say "Oneida Lake, Hamburg Township, Pinckney" so buyers searching locally find you.
- Have well, septic, dock and survey details ready.
