This page covers the small Silver Lake in Hartland Township, Livingston County, about 11.6 miles from downtown Fenton. It's a different lake from the Silver Lake in Fenton Township (see my Fenton Silver Lake page). • Location: Hartland Township, Livingston County. The USGS place-name record places it about 2.6 miles southeast of Hartland.
• Size: about 8 acres in EGLE MiEnviro inland lakes mapping. I didn't find an acreage in the DNR named-lakes list.
• Name note: the USGS place-name record lists Maxfield Lake as an alternate name. Maxfield Lake is also the name of a larger Hartland Township lake (Ed Constable Team lake guide), so I check the Water Name on every listing.
• Boating: I didn't find a Michigan DNR local watercraft control naming Silver Lake in Hartland Township (Michigan DNR Livingston County watercraft controls).
• Public access: I didn't find a published public boat launch for this Silver Lake. Ask me, and we'll confirm what applies to a specific home.
• Shoreline: Microsoft building-footprint map data shows about 27 buildings near the shore.

Living on Silver Lake

Hartland's Silver Lake suits buyers who want a small, quiet lake in Livingston County. With only a couple dozen buildings near the shore, there aren't many homes to choose from, and a saved search is the easiest way to watch for one.

Hartland Township & Schools

This Silver Lake is in Hartland Township. The Hartland Township waterfront listings I checked in October 2026 were all in Hartland Consolidated Schools, but I confirm the district, well and septic or sewer for every address. See my Hartland community page for more.

Tips for Buyers

• Understand riparian rights. Michigan waterfront ("riparian") owners generally have rights to dock and reach the water (EGLE inland lakes guide). "Lake privileges" or a shared lot is different, so read the deed and any easement.
• Know the local rules. I'll check Hartland Township zoning, association rules, and any dock or shoreline rules for the specific parcel.
• Seawalls and permanent docks generally need an EGLE permit, while seasonal docks usually don't (EGLE dock handout). Ask for permit records.
• Confirm sewer or septic and well, and schedule inspections for any private system.
