Lake of the Week: Silver Lake

Nov. 04, 2026 | Written by: Kennedy Christensen

Welcome back to Lake of the Week! We've visited Lake Fenton, Lobdell Lake and Lake Ponemah so far, and this week I'm featuring the lake most Fenton families already know by heart: Silver Lake.

What Makes Silver Lake Special

Silver Lake sits in Fenton Township, about two miles from downtown Fenton, though some Silver Lake homes have City of Fenton addresses. At about 339 acres (Michigan's Named Inland Lakes), it's listed as an all-sports lake in the Fenton Regional Chamber of Commerce area lakes guide, with a slow-no wake area on one section of the lake and its canals (Michigan DNR).

It's also home to Silver Lake Park, the City of Fenton's largest park. The park covers 35.4 acres and has a 300-foot lifeguarded beach that's open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, and the Silver Lake Ski Club performs there on summer Tuesdays at 7 pm (City of Fenton). On the Fourth of July, the Fenton Freedom Festival ends with fireworks over the park. If you don't live on the water yet, Silver Spray Sports on the north end runs a private launch that's open to the public for daily use during summer business hours (Silver Spray Sports).

Who It's a Good Fit For

  • Families who love a hometown feel. The beach, the ski shows and the fireworks are all right here.
  • All-sports boaters. Room to tube and cruise, with a quieter slow-no wake section.
  • Anyone who wants to be close to town. Downtown Fenton and US-23 are just minutes away.

The current Silver Lake listings I checked are in Fenton Area Public Schools, but I always confirm the district address by address.

A Tip for Sellers

If you own on Silver Lake, be clear about your frontage before you list. Direct frontage, across-the-road frontage and lake privileges are very different things to a buyer, and today's listings include all three. Note the water depth at your dock and your seawall's condition, and gather permit records for any shoreline work. Then show off the lifestyle: if you can see the fireworks from your deck, say so. Clear answers build trust and keep your sale moving.

What's on the Market Right Now

As of Nov. 4, my Silver Lake waterfront search shows 3 homes for sale and 1 pending, listed from $599,999 to $4,499,000. You can browse the current Silver Lake listings here, and my full Silver Lake guide covers riparian rights, city vs. township, sewer and septic, flood maps and FAQs.

Thinking about buying or selling on Silver Lake, or on any of our Genesee County area lakes? I'd love to help.
