Rush Lake is in Hamburg Township, Livingston County, about 0.7 miles from the Pettysville area and about 3.4 miles from the Village of Pinckney (USGS place data via TopoQuest), and about 24.1 miles from downtown Fenton. In November 2026, my site had one Rush Lake listing, a Creston Drive lot with lake privileges and a planned new home.

Lake Overview

• Location: Hamburg Township, Livingston County, west of Pettysville (MichiganLakes.com).
• Size: about 140 acres in DNR data (Michigan's Named Inland Lakes, DNR data via MLSA); EGLE MiEnviro inland lakes mapping shows about 139 acres. The Rush Lake Property Owners Association says about 130 acres, and MichiganLakes.com lists 100.
• Depth: the association describes it as shallow, averaging five to six feet with some areas around 15 feet (RLPOA).
• Boating: I didn't find a Michigan DNR local watercraft control naming Rush Lake (Michigan DNR Livingston County watercraft controls). The association calls it a private, all-sports lake (RLPOA lake page).
• Access: the association maintains three parks and a boat launch for the lake community (RLPOA). I didn't find a public DNR launch.
• Shoreline: Microsoft building-footprint map data shows about 219 buildings near the shore.

Living on Rush Lake

Rush Lake is a private, spring-fed lake (RLPOA). The owners' association handles lake upkeep, including water testing, lake surveys and herbicide treatments paid for through annual dues (RLPOA lake page), and a court order sets the height of the dam to keep water levels steady (RLPOA).

Hamburg Township & Schools

Rush Lake homes have Pinckney addresses, and the current listing is in Pinckney Community Schools. Hamburg Township waterfront homes on my site today are in Pinckney Community Schools or Brighton Area Schools, so I confirm the district for every address.

Tips for Buyers

• Understand riparian rights. Michigan waterfront ("riparian") owners generally have rights to dock and reach the water (EGLE inland lakes guide). "Lake privileges" or a shared lot is different, so read the deed and any easement.
• Know the local rules. I'll check Hamburg Township zoning, association rules, and any dock or shoreline rules for the specific parcel.
• Seawalls and permanent docks generally need an EGLE permit, while seasonal docks usually don't (EGLE dock handout). Ask for permit records.
• Confirm sewer or septic and well, and schedule inspections for any private system.
• Check the address on FEMA's Flood Map Service Center and get a flood insurance quote early.
• Association members pay annual dues, and Moon Shadows owners added a canal assessment in 2019 (RLPOA lake page). I'll get dues, rules and assessments for the parcel in writing.
