• Size: about 74 acres in DNR data (Michigan's Named Inland Lakes, DNR data via MLSA); EGLE MiEnviro inland lakes mapping shows about 70 acres, and the Ed Constable Team lake guide lists 60.
• Watershed: part of the Shiawassee River watershed (Ed Constable Team lake guide).
• Nature preserve: the Livingston Land Conservancy's 50-acre Round Lake of Hartland Nature Preserve, east of Blaine Road and south of M-59, covers the north and west sides of the lake, with hardwoods, wetlands and an island.
• Public access: the Ed Constable Team lake guide says there is no public access.
• Boating: I didn't find a Michigan DNR local watercraft control naming Round Lake in Hartland Township (Michigan DNR Livingston County watercraft controls).
• Shoreline: Microsoft building-footprint map data shows about 65 buildings near the shore.

Living on Round Lake

Round Lake pairs a protected shoreline with quick access to M-59 and US-23 shopping and commuting. The preserve on the north and west sides keeps hardwoods and wetlands in place (Livingston Land Conservancy).

Hartland Township & Schools

Round Lake is in Hartland Township. The Hartland Township waterfront listings I checked in October 2026 were all in Hartland Consolidated Schools, but I confirm the district, well and septic or sewer for every address. See my Hartland community page for more.

Tips for Buyers

• Understand riparian rights. Michigan waterfront ("riparian") owners generally have rights to dock and reach the water (EGLE inland lakes guide). "Lake privileges" or a shared lot is different, so read the deed and any easement.
• Know the local rules. I'll check Hartland Township zoning, association rules, and any dock or shoreline rules for the specific parcel.
• Seawalls and permanent docks generally need an EGLE permit, while seasonal docks usually don't (EGLE dock handout). Ask for permit records.
• Confirm sewer or septic and well, and schedule inspections for any private system.
• Check the address on FEMA's Flood Map Service Center and get a flood insurance quote early.
