Welcome to Green Oak Lake

Green Oak Lake, also known as Silver Lake, is a spring-fed, private, all-sports lake in Green Oak Township, Livingston County (Silver Lake Improvement Corporation), with South Lyon mailing addresses, about 22.8 miles from downtown Fenton. Listings use the Silver Lake name, so my lake button searches that name. In October 2026 it showed two homes on Silverside, including 9276 Silverside.

Lake Overview

• Location: Green Oak Township, Livingston County (Silver Lake Improvement Corporation).
• Size: about 152 acres in DNR data (Michigan's Named Inland Lakes, DNR data via MLSA); EGLE MiEnviro inland lakes mapping shows about 150 acres, and the Silver Lake Improvement Corporation lists 152 acres, about 42 feet deep.
• Boating: an all-sports lake, according to the Silver Lake Improvement Corporation. I didn't find a DNR local watercraft control naming it under either name (Michigan DNR Livingston County watercraft controls).
• Public access: I didn't find a public boat launch. The Silver Lake Improvement Corporation describes it as a private lake.
• Shoreline: Microsoft building-footprint map data shows about 211 buildings near the shore.

Living on Green Oak Lake

The Silver Lake Improvement Corporation traces lake life back to the Doane family farm in 1837 and the Peach family, here since 1899, who ran a saw mill, general store and ice house. Huron Meadows Metropark and Island Lake Recreation Area are a short drive, and Moose Ridge Golf Course is within walking distance (Silver Lake Improvement Corporation).

Green Oak Township & Schools

Green Oak Lake homes are in Green Oak Township with South Lyon addresses, and the current listings on my site are in Brighton Area Schools. Green Oak Township is split among school districts, so I confirm the district and utilities for every address.

Tips for Buyers

• Understand riparian rights. Michigan waterfront ("riparian") owners generally have rights to dock and reach the water (EGLE inland lakes guide). "Lake privileges" or a shared lot is different, so read the deed and any easement.
• Know the local rules. I'll check Green Oak Township zoning, association rules, and any dock or shoreline rules for the specific parcel.
• Seawalls and permanent docks generally need an EGLE permit, while seasonal docks usually don't (EGLE dock handout). Ask for permit records.
